What We Do
Rescuing Threatened Organs
We rescue and store pipe organs that are threatened with immediate destruction and work to find them suitable new homes. We welcome contact from anyone who may be able to offer a new home to an organ.
Soon, you will be able to view and download a list of unwanted organs currently looking for new homes.
If you would like to list an unwanted organ, or find out more about offering a home to one, please use the options below.
Placing Organs in Public Places
So far, we have placed two pipe organs in public spaces:
These installations have introduced thousands of people to the joy of hearing and playing organ music in everyday public settings.
We are always looking for new public places where organs can be installed and enjoyed. If you know of a suitable location, we would love to hear from you.
Revitalising Public Interest
We aim to do much more than simply save threatened instruments.
Pipe Up exists to revitalise public interest in organ music, organ care, and appreciation, ensuring that pipe organs remain a living, audible part of Britain’s cultural life.
Our manifesto sets out what we want to do, and how we plan to do it. All of this depends on the financial and practical support we can mobilise.
Giving Guidance
Very often, people need advice on the best course of action when they own, manage, or have responsibility for a pipe organ.
We provide expert guidance on the options available, the likely outcomes, and the practical steps involved in each approach.
Our advice is simple: do not make hasty decisions. Pipe organs have strong public support and can often be brought back into use and maintained at surprisingly modest cost.
One common situation we advise on is what to do with an organ in a church that has closed and become a community centre. We have produced a guidance paper on this topic, which can be downloaded.
